TRINITY
Project type
Painting
Date
2024
Medium
acrylic and paint pen on canvas
Dimensions
108"h x 72"w
A component of the multisensory installation Ancestral Futurism*, the predominant symbology in this piece, three intersecting eyes, is intended to feminize and reclaim the idea of the “holy trinity” as taught by the Catholic church. Contrasting ideological father-son-holy spirit which requires faith in dogma and intercession of a patriarchal institution to access the divine, this represents the moment where 3 generations share a body; the mother, the female fetus and the ova inside the fetus. As human beings, we have direct relationship experience with this trinity as it lives in our bodies. Humans who go through the rite of passage as mothers experience this relationship three times as they have embodied all three states.
