Yesterday. a friend of mine introduced me to a Cree word, Wahkohtowin, which, in my understanding, is a way of moving through life that honors the connection/relationship between all things. I understand this to be not only a "what" that is an immutable truth, but a "how" that guides our awareness closer to this truth. Although I am not Cree nor do I speak the language, this word resonated as deeply familiar; a "what" that my being knew all along but, since I have not been living the "how", I had momentarily forgotten.
This got me thinking about how language shapes our consciousness, taking note of the fact that there is (unsurprisingly) no word for this in English. How can something so true and so profound be unspeakable?
I need to get out into the woods more often, away from the overwhelm of the city and back to the home that welcomes and embraces me.
